Consulate-eneral,
CANTON,
hovember 4th, 1914.
I have the honour to report that on its becoming
known that the Hongkong Government had received
instructions to segregate all onowy subjects between
the wger of 17 and 46 and to expel the rest, there was
great pertubation mon st the German residents on
Shamien who apprehended that British trops would be
sent up to effect the arrest of those lible to be
culivu out for military service and to seize their
offices and we contents of their godowe. Strong
pressure, which in the majority of cases had the
desired effect, war accordingly brought to bear on them
by their Consul with a view to inducing them all to
leave the island, vootor Faisler himself reserved quarters
for his family and staff in the Rasel bission on the
other side of the river, and in said to have conveyed
thither his urchives and cert sån rticles removed from Bir John Jordan, 3.0.1.4., K.M.D.
